Empowering the Next Generation: New Hire Training and Expectations for AI in the Workplace

Recently, we had the privilege of conducting a specialized training session for a private equity client, aimed at their newly hired summer interns. The focus of the session was to provide use case and prompt training, ensuring these bright minds are well-equipped to leverage AI in their roles. Additionally, we engaged with the interns to understand their expectations for using AI in the workplace.

AI Training

Our training session was designed to be interactive and informative, covering the following key areas:

  1. Introduction to AI and Large Language Models (LLMs): We began with an overview of AI and its applications in the financial sector, particularly in private equity. This set the stage for understanding how AI can be a game-changer in their daily tasks.
  2. Use Case Exploration: We delved into specific use cases relevant to private equity, demonstrating how AI can streamline processes such as due diligence, market analysis, and portfolio management. Real-world examples helped interns visualize the practical applications of AI.
  3. Prompt Engineering: A significant portion of the session was dedicated to prompt engineering. Interns learned how to craft effective prompts to get the most out of AI tools like ChatGPT. This hands-on segment allowed them to practice and refine their skills in real-time.

Expectations for Using AI in the Workplace

In a recent survey of the intern class at a private equity firm, we found that expectations are high for AI in the workplace.  

  • Daily Use of ChatGPT: Approximately 50% of the interns reported using ChatGPT at least daily, while an impressive 83% use it at least weekly. This indicates a high level of comfort and reliance on AI tools among the interns.
  • Efficiency Expectations: A staggering 94% of the interns believe that AI and LLMs will make them more efficient in their work. This aligns with our mission to enhance productivity through AI-driven solutions.
  • Employer Expectations: About 89% of the interns expect their employer to provide enterprise-grade AI/LLM access. This highlights the growing importance of AI in the workplace and the need for companies to invest in these technologies.
  • Employer Choice: Interestingly, 33% of the interns mentioned they would reconsider their choice of employer if they did not have access to enterprise-grade AI/LLM tools. This underscores the competitive edge that AI capabilities can provide in attracting and retaining top talent.
